I love goals and resolutions. So, needless to say, when it comes to writing out New Year’s Resolutions, I get pretty excited. Once again on January 1st, Jerrub and I sat down and wrote out all of our goals for the new year. (Plus it’s a fun time to spend with your spouse!)
We actually have 4 separate lists of goals:
– Life Goals
– Relationship Goals
– His Personal Goals
– My Personal Goals
One of our life goals was to re-read our goals each day…because they say the more you see, read, and visualize your goals, the more likely you are to go through with them.
I thought our goals were great and we were all set… until we went to church on Sunday. The message was basically about New Year’s Resolutions. The pastor shared his with us and it opened my eyes to a whole different way of looking at goals. My goals have usually been tangible or things to physically do/don’t do. He made me realize how much better of a person I can be if I simply work on certain qualities I have. So here are the 3 things that I’ve added to my Goal list for the new year:
1. More encouragement, less envy. Let’s face it, we all have times where we think “If I just had this then I would be happy.” We are jealous of other peoples looks, lives, possessions, talents, and the list goes on. Whenever I start to feel that feeling of jealousy, I am going to practice on turning the private envy into public encouragement.
2. More attempts, less excuses. We are made for so much more than we realize. I’ve always believed that. It’s just a matter of stepping out of your comfort zone. This year when I feel the Lord calling me to do something, I am not going to wait for an audience and I am not going to wait to be asked.
3. More gratitude, less entitlement. Who likes to be around those people that constantly complain and grumble? Those people that think the world owes them and they pity themselves? I no longer want to be associated as one of those people. I’m going to work on giving thanks and being grateful. To help with that, at the end of each week, I am going to make a list of 5 things that I am grateful for!
I’d love to hear what some of your New Year’s Resolutions are!!! Feel free to share them in the comment section! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
